St. Michael’s Fortress crowns the highest point of the island of Ugljan, a Venetian stronghold dating from the 13th century above the village of Preko. From its ramparts a full 360-degree panorama unfolds over the entire Zadar archipelago, reaching as far as the Velebit mountains in clear weather. A short but rewarding walk uphill leads to the old walls.
Good to know
The fortress is reached by a marked path from Preko in a short walk; sturdy shoes and water are advisable. The view is especially striking at sunset.
